Security of Automation Systems (SAS)
6/7. Semester
5 ECTS | 4 SWS
Continuous Assessment (CA)
Secure Smart Factories: Analyze networked production systems, identify security risks, and develop protection strategies for modern industrial environments.
Contents
- In modern production systems, operational safety and cybersecurity are critical success factors. Even minor errors can lead to consequences ranging from the misuse of stolen data and information to risks for both people and machinery. This course examines integrated security concepts for industrial automation architectures and modern communication technologies in the context of Industry 4.0.
- Topics include:
- Industry 4.0 (Introduction, Definitions, and Standards)
- Cyber-Physical Systems (Fundamentals and Concepts)
- Industrial IT Security
- Fieldbus Systems and Sensor Networks
- Secure Cloud Connectivity (OPC UA, DDS, MQTT)
Competencies
Students are able to
- classify concepts within the context of Industry 4.0 and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT).
- apply standards, regulations, and implementation recommendations related to information security.
- conduct risk assessments and develop measures for risk mitigation.
- understand the fundamentals of communication in industrial systems, including networks, fieldbus systems, OPC UA, and DDS (Data Distribution Service).
- explain Industry 4.0 reference architectures, such as IIRA and RAMI, and relate them to industrial systems.
- describe Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) conceptually and identify suitable application scenarios.
- explain the characteristics and functionality of modern machine-to-machine communication protocols.
- use secure communication methods for the vertical and horizontal integration of smart industrial devices.
- design concepts for data transmission between industrial sensors and actuators (IIoT) and cloud technologies for intelligent data analysis.
- integrate the acquired technologies into practical industrial automation systems.
